    Peter Skene Ogden Trail

    Peter Skene Ogden Trail

The Peter Skene Ogden Trail is a slice of PNW waterfall paradise. This out-and-back trail is nestled between big evergreens and follows Paulina Creek all the way up to beautiful Paulina Lake. It features multiple waterfalls and the soothing sound of rushing water will provide you a blissful adventure in one of Central Oregon’s gems: Newberry National Volcanic Monument.

Starting at Ogden Group camp, it’s an 18-mile adventure with 2,100 feet of vertical gain. There are other trailheads along the trail (McKay Crossing Campground, etc.) if you’d like to enjoy a shorter adventure. There are gorgeous waterfalls every 3 miles, and around mile 8, there is a turnoff for Paulina Falls. This is an incredible view of twin 80-foot waterfalls you don’t want to miss! You’ll definitely hear the sound of loud rushing water when you need to take the right turn. Once you reach Paulina Lake, enjoy the lovely lakeside views of Paulina Peak, take a refreshing swim in Paulina Lake, & enjoy drinks or food at Paulina Lake Lodge.

When you hop back on the trail, enjoy cruising the well-deserved, all downhill section back to your car at Ogden Group Camp. The Peter Skene Ogden Trail will leave you wanting to explore more of Newberry National Volcanic Monument. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with more route recommendations (Crater Rim Trail, Paulina Lakeshore Loop)!
