Where: The race starts and finishes at Horse Butte in Bend, Oregon. You can Google Map Horse Butte Bend, OR and it will come up.
Course: This course turns from dirt road to singletrack in the first half mile and stays single track for the next 9.5. The course is mostly uphill for the first 5 miles with much of the gain for the whole loop coming from miles 2-5. The one aid station is located at mile 5.4 after which you get a break from climbing until the short but memorable bump just after mile 8. The remainder of the course is fairly flat with some of the most technical footing coming in the last quarter mile. This course weather permitting, is in my opinion one of the most visually appealing courses. Great views of the high desert and mountains can be had especially on the way back in from the aid station. If you have never done this event put it on your to do list!
**We do have a rule that to get a course record you must be dressed in western wear. Jean shorts and western shirt at a minimum. I highly suggest a cowboy hat.
Aid Station: We will be offering water/gels at the aid station. Please bring your favorite hydration contraption for your run. Making an attempt to keep our garbage impact to a minimum
Post Race: The BBQ will return once again for 2025. Beef and veggie dogs will be on the menu. Cascade Lakes Brewing Co will be supplying post race beverages. Water and other snacks will be available for racers and volunteers only, please.
Awards: Every finisher receives a special finisher prize. Top 3 finishers in each division (Men’s Overall, Women’s Overall, Men’s Masters, & Women’s Masters) receive special prizes. We’ll raffle off additional prizes from our sponsors!
Refund Policy
Due to the nature and expense of putting on races and in attempts to keep these smaller, local races as affordable as possible, we are unable to process refunds for this race. Please double check your family calendars, and commitments before registering.
In the event of extreme conditions (fire, ice, extreme heat, or other), race directors will work with local public safety and our own medical advisors to determine if the conditions are safe for race participants and volunteers. In the event that conditions are deemed unsafe, race directors may modify or cancel the race at their sole discretion. In these extreme circumstances, as is true throughout the race industry, refunds will not be offered*. Most of the costs involved in producing a race happen long before you go to the start line. None of us have control over the weather, and we all share in the risk involved if Mother Nature intervenes and makes it unsafe to continue with the event.
